One of our students come from Africa, his family is doing clothes trading business in China. He wants to learn Mandarin because he want to do business together with his families. The mandarin now is widely used all over the world. There are many opportunities for him to do the business between his hometown and China. Therefore, he start to learn not only the Mandarin but also the Chinese culture to know about how Chinese people do business and how they think in Chinese logic. The Mandarin study do helps a lot to him.

Why does context work?

As a Chinese teacher, I am always delighted to observe and learn from my students. One thing I have noticed in my interactions with my students is how hard most of them have to struggle during the learning process. The courses you take and the textbooks you use can of course be beneficial, but they alone cannot make you a better language learner. Too much time can be used up figuring out the meaning of words, taking notes in class, looking up words in the dictionary, or talking with friends.
